Events

There are so many events each year that it is impossible to list them all, but the following are regular fixtures in the Dorset Game Bird calendar.

January
Clay Day
Held on the 2nd Saturday of the months (when there isn't a Quarterly Clay Comp). This is a practice session held at Purbeck Shooting School in Wareham and is a fun non competitive morning's shooting and gives members a chance to learn from each other. 

February
Quarterly Clay Comp
Held on the 2nd Saturday of the months (when there isn't a Clay Day). This is an informal competition shooting approximately 50 clays over a sporting layout at Purbeck Shooting School in Wareham.

March
Twitchy Fingers 
The highlight of the Dorset Game Bird calendar and not to be missed! Hosted by Sarah and David Solly, this event is held over two days. There are only 9 places available. Accommodation is varied and in the form of 2 double bedrooms, one twin room (which will be shared) a futon in the front sitting room and a sofa bed in the back sitting room/dining room and it will be done on a first come first served basis. You do not have to stay in the barn, (in fact it's great if some girls don't need to because then the girls that are staying don't have to bunk up!) you are more than welcome to attend for both days, but go home on Saturday evening. The price is approx £125 per person (whether you stay over night or not), to include all clays, instruction, food and accommodation. This is incredible value for the amount of shooting that you get.

April  
Den Watts Shoot
A charity shoot to raise money for the Dorchester County Hospital. Shooting 30 clays each in pairs you will be scored as a pair and your score entered into the competition. There are several categories including Best Ladies. The cost is £25 per pair, payable on the day.

May 
AGMI will give a brief over view of the past year and we will elect the committee for the year ahead, but the most important thing is that this is the chance for ALL MEMBERS to have their say about the club, SO PLEASE COME ALONG. We want to hear ideas for new events, what you like and what you don't like! If any committee members feel unable to continue in their roles please let me know and it anyone is interested in being on the committee, do get in touch. The meeting will be as brief as possible, no longer than an hour and those that want to can go onto shoot in the Quarterly Clay Comp afterwards.

Quarterly Clay CompetitionThis is a fun, relaxed competition where members get together to shoot a few clays, have a natter and possibly a bacon butty!  There will be score sheets available for those who wish to keep a tally and girls will be put into one of three groups; Novice, Intermediate and Advanced.  There will be the much sough after DGB rosettes up for grabs!

Wessex Inter-Club Clay Shoot
Although the competition is named the “Wessex Inter-Club Clay Shoot”, it was decided by many to name the team trophy “The Bob Neal Memorial Shield” in memory of Bob who passed away 2 years or so ago and so many of us knew. Bob was a cornerstone in the setting up of this event.More info to follow.

June 
Clay Day

The Pink PicnicThe Pink Picnic is a fab annual event, there are 6 stands including clay shooting, catapults, fly casting etc and girls will move round to each stand in small groups of 3 or 4. Individual scores will be noted and prizes for the best at each stand and the best overall will be awarded.This is a fun, friendly event which allows girls to have a go at different disciplines and have a laugh. When guns have been put away and prizes awarded, there will be a homemade pic-nic outside and the afternoons achievements will be celebrated (or commiserated) over a glass or two of Pimms.  Girls are encouraged to enter into the spirit of the day and to wear something pink!  The cost per person is approx £25 which includes the scrummy homemade supper, exact price to be confirmed nearer the time. Girls to provide their own cartridges.

July

3 Lions Christmas Shoot & Christmas LunchThis will be a fun morning of shooting a sporting layout set up as a disused quarry.  Silly Christmas hats, jumpers and reindeer antlers are obligatory! One round consists of 40 birds, shot in 4 pairs from 5 stands.  You will shoot in groups of four and can do as many rounds as you want to in the time, the last round is at midday.  We will then rendezvous at a local pub for a Christmas lunch and general festive frolics!
